EzyBiz LEX vs Trillet

Trillet is an Australian-owned AI voice platform from Melbourne, with a self-serve AI receptionist at $49 a month, a white-label platform for agencies and a managed enterprise service. EzyBiz LEX is a business phone with an automated answering service built in, made for Australian law firms. This page compares the two for a law firm, from Trillet's own website, law firm guide and help centre as at 30 September 2026.

The one difference that drives the rest

Trillet's self-serve receptionist answers the calls you forward to it and emails you a summary. It is quick to set up and cheap to run, and Trillet's own guide for law firms is candid about its scope: the $49 plan is for a non-sensitive public-information and booking workflow, it does not natively sync with LEAP, Actionstep, Smokeball or Clio, and substantive intake or matter details need a plan and a written agreement that expressly permit them.

EzyBiz LEX is built for those calls. It takes the intake a firm needs, recognises existing clients and their matters, and files each call to the matter in Smokeball or to SharePoint on its one standard plan. Because each lawyer's business number is in the app, calls ring straight through when the lawyer is free, and the calls the lawyer takes are written up and filed as well.

What it isAn AI voice platform in three tiers: a self-serve receptionist, a white-label platform for agencies, and a managed enterprise service.A business phone for each lawyer, with an automated answering service and matter filing built in.
Who answersAn AI agent, 24 hours a day, on your existing number. An automated answering service in the firm's name, which says it is automated, in one of three modes each lawyer sets: Available, Screen or Unavailable.
A phone for the lawyerNone listed. You keep your existing number and set up call forwarding to the AI.Yes. Each lawyer has an Australian business number in the EzyBiz LEX app on the phone they already carry. Calls come in on it, calls out show the business number, and SMS is sent and received on it.
When you are freeConditional call forwarding with your carrier lets the firm's phone ring first and diverts unanswered, busy or unreachable calls to the AI. The AI can also transfer a call to a person under rules set in the call flow.In Available mode the call rings straight to the lawyer, with the caller's name, their matter and the last note on screen before they answer. Nobody answers first and nothing is transferred.
Changing availabilityTransfer rules are edited in the platform's call flow settings: destinations, ring time, working hours for each day and public holidays. One tap on the Home tab of the app, per lawyer, taking effect on the next call. Available, Screen or Unavailable, changed between a hearing and a meeting.
After the callA call summary by email on the self-serve plan.A push notification, then a written summary, the transcript and a finished file note, in the app and on the matter.
Filing to the matterIts law firm guide says the self-serve plan does not natively or automatically sync LEAP, Actionstep, Smokeball or Clio, and that a customer may build an API connection themselves. Its legal page lists Clio, LEAP, Smokeball and Actionstep among the systems its sales-led enterprise solution connects to, scoped and quoted separately.Automatic. In Smokeball each call becomes a completed task on the matter with the file note, plus a memo or a document. SharePoint gets a document per call under the contact. Clio filing is in development.
New enquiriesBooks appointments into a connected calendar. Its guide says substantive intake, conflict data and matter details require a use case, plan, controls and written agreement that expressly permit them.A new caller becomes a contact and a lead matter in Smokeball with the call on it, a call back becomes an open task that syncs both ways, and a booked consult lands in the Smokeball calendar.
Calling and texting backFrom your own phone or phone system. The return call is outside the service.Call and text back from the app on the business number. The return call and the texts sit on the same contact timeline and are filed to the same matter.

scheduleThe working day

Six moments in a lawyer's day, handled two ways

The table says what each product has. These are the moments where a lawyer feels the difference.

You are at your desk and a client rings

With Trillet. Set conditional forwarding with your carrier and your own phone rings first, with Trillet taking what you miss. Trillet is not the phone you answer on, so the calls you take yourself are not summarised or filed.

With EzyBiz LEX. Leave the line in Available and the call rings your phone directly, with the client's name, the matter and your last note on screen from the first ring. You answer as yourself, and when you hang up the summary, the transcript and the file note are written and filed without anyone typing them. If you miss the call, the answering service picks it up in the firm's name.

You walk into court at ten to ten

With Trillet. Your carrier's forwarding decides when calls reach the AI, and the transfer rules sit in the platform's call flow settings with working hours for each day. Changing either between a hearing and a meeting means dialling a forwarding code or editing the call flow.

With EzyBiz LEX. Tap Unavailable on the Home tab as you walk in and the service takes every call from the next ring. Tap Screen on the way out and genuine callers are put through to you with a one-line summary, while cold callers stop at the front desk. There is no schedule to edit, no code to dial and nobody to notify.

A new enquiry rings at seven in the evening

With Trillet. The AI answers on your number and books into your calendar. On the $49 plan Trillet's guide says to keep the workflow to public information and booking, so the detail of the matter waits for the call back.

With EzyBiz LEX. The service answers in the firm's name at any hour, asks what the matter is about, the other party's name, any date that is close and how the caller found the firm, then books a consult or a call back time. The enquiry opens as a lead in Smokeball with the file note attached, and the booking is in the calendar.

You ring the client back

With Trillet. You ring back from your own phone. The self-serve receptionist handles the inbound call, and the return call is outside the service.

With EzyBiz LEX. Tap the contact in the app and the call goes out on the business number, so the client sees the firm's number and your personal mobile stays private. The return call is transcribed, summarised and filed to the same matter as the message that prompted it, and a text reply is drafted for you to read and send.

The note for the file

With Trillet. A summary arrives by email. On the self-serve plan nothing is written to the practice management system unless the firm builds the connection itself.

With EzyBiz LEX. The file note is written when the caller hangs up, with the summary, the outcome, any booking and the follow-ups, and the transcript beneath it. It is filed to the matter in Smokeball or to your SharePoint library, and when the service cannot tell which matter a call belongs to it asks you in the app.

A busy month

With Trillet. Beyond 150 minutes each minute is $0.20, with SMS and telephony charged separately. At most firms' volumes Trillet is the cheaper product, and price is not the reason to choose between the two.

With EzyBiz LEX. The subscription is the only figure. Thirty calls or three hundred, long intake calls or short ones, the month costs A$79.99 per lawyer.

Where Trillet is the better fit

A firm that wants the cheapest dependable way to stop after hours calls ringing out, with bookings into the calendar and an emailed summary, can be live on Trillet in minutes for $49 a month and keep its number. A larger firm with the budget for a managed build can take practice management integration and Australian data residency up with its enterprise team and have them written into the agreement.

Where EzyBiz LEX is the better fit

A firm that wants the enquiry itself taken on the call, with the other party's name, the dates and what the caller wants, and wants it on the Smokeball matter or in SharePoint without building anything. EzyBiz LEX is also the lawyer's business line, so direct calls, call backs and texts are in the same record.

A business number and calling app for each lawyer, calls that ring straight through with the matter on screen, legal intake on every call, SMS with drafted replies, and automatic filing to the Smokeball matter or SharePoint, with no per-minute charge.

No. The answering service is automated and says so. In Screen mode it puts genuine callers through to the lawyer, and a caller who asks for a person is offered to be put through or to leave a message for the lawyer.
