About Avocado, the company behind EzyBiz LEX

Why it exists

Small Australian law firms answer their own phones, and when they cannot, the call goes to voicemail. Clio's secret-shopper research found only 40% of firms answered at all. The firms that do answer then have a second problem: the call is not on the file. It was taken on a mobile between a hearing and a meeting, and the note never got written.

EzyBiz LEX started from those two problems. QRYSTEL intelligence, the technology that answers every call in the firm's name and never gives advice, takes care of the first. Writing the summary and transcript to the matter in Smokeball or to SharePoint before the lawyer is free to call back takes care of the second. Everything else in the product follows from those two.

Who makes it

Sunil Chand, founder of Avocado Pty Ltd

Avocado Pty Ltd is based in Melbourne's south-east and is run by its founder, Sunil Chand, who also writes the guides on this site.

Sunil has built mobile apps for fifteen years. He started an Android studio in Sydney in 2010, built a national supermarket's shopping app from scratch as part of the agency team, and then led Android engineering at that agency for five years across clients in retail, media and finance. Most recently he spent nearly four years as a senior mobile engineer at one of Australia's big four banks, after a contract with a consumer finance company, so the security, privacy and reliability expectations that come with banking software are the ones EzyBiz LEX is built to. He founded Avocado in 2021 and has worked on EzyBiz since, first for trades and service businesses and now, as EzyBiz LEX, for law firms.

Built and supported in Australia

Call summaries, messages and call details are stored in Australian data centres (transcripts only until they are filed to the firm's own system, or for three months when there is nowhere to file them) and handled under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Numbers are Australian numbers. Support is a person in Australia.
