Why it exists

Small Australian law firms answer their own phones, and when they cannot, the call goes to voicemail. Clio's secret-shopper research found only 40% of firms answered at all. The firms that do answer then have a second problem: the call is not on the file. It was taken on a mobile between a hearing and a meeting, and the note never got written.

EzyBiz Lex started from those two problems. An answering service that picks up in the firm's name and never gives advice takes care of the first. Writing the summary and transcript to the matter in Smokeball, Clio or SharePoint before the lawyer is free to call back takes care of the second. Everything else in the product follows from those two.

Who makes it

Avocado Pty Ltd is based in Melbourne's south-east and is run by its founder, Sunil Chand. EzyBiz began as a business line and AI receptionist for Australian trades and service businesses, and EzyBiz Lex is the version built for law firms, with the filing, the caller-identity rules and the no-advice rules that a legal line needs. The company also publishes plain, sourced pieces on legal intake for the profession, with the product interest declared each time.

Built and supported in Australia

Calls, transcripts and messages are stored in Australian data centres and handled under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Numbers are Australian numbers. Support is a person in Australia, and during the pilot that person is the founder.

The pilot

EzyBiz Lex is in pilot with law firms in Victoria. Five founding places remain. A founding firm gets setup with the founder, the price locked for twelve months, and a sixty-day walk-away guarantee: if EzyBiz Lex has not answered a call you would have missed, walk away and pay nothing further.
