RingCentral for law firms in Australia

RingCentral is a large general cloud phone, messaging and video platform. It is sold to law firms, but what it writes to a legal matter depends on which practice management system the firm runs, and in Australia it quotes rather than publishes its prices.

RingCentral works for a law firm on Smokeball or Clio that wants a general phone platform and is content with click to call and a task with the call time, rather than a file note, on the matter.

A LEAP or Actionstep firm gets no listed integration. A call nobody answers goes to voicemail, and RingCentral's receptionist products do not write to the matter.

We make a competing product

EzyBiz LEX is ours and appears under alternatives. Everything said about the system on this page comes from its own website and from Smokeball, LEAP, Clio and Actionstep as at 3 October 2026, with the sources at the foot of the page, and where a site is silent the page says so.

fact_checkOn the record

RingCentral for a law firm, in six facts

As published by RingCentral and by the practice management vendors on 3 October 2026.

What it is

A general cloud phone system with messaging and video, sold to businesses of every kind, with Australian numbers and a desktop and mobile app.

Published Australian price

None. RingCentral's Australian plans and pricing page shows no prices and asks firms to request a quote.

Smokeball

Smokeball's support article documents click to call and a task created with the call time for each call made or received in the RingCentral app. A second integration, by Captivo Labs, is also listed.

Clio

Clio's app directory lists RingCentral for Clio in Australia, which logs calls and time through a Chrome extension.

LEAP and Actionstep

Not listed by either vendor.

Who answers when the lawyer cannot

Voicemail. RingCentral sells receptionist and AI answering add-ons; none of them writes to a legal matter.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits

A firm on Smokeball or Clio with several lawyers at desks, a reception desk of its own, and a wish for one platform for calls, messaging and video across the whole office. A firm that already has RingCentral for another business and wants the law practice on the same account.

It does not suit

A LEAP or Actionstep firm, which gets no matter integration. A sole practitioner or small firm that misses calls in court, because the unanswered call goes to voicemail and nothing of it reaches the matter. A firm that wants a file note for every call rather than a task with the call time.

Alternatives for a law firm

The two systems on our guide that were built for lawyers, with what each writes to the matter.

EzyBiz LEX

A business phone for each lawyer with QRYSTEL intelligence, an automated answering service, on the same line. It answers the calls nobody took, takes the intake, transfers a qualified lead to whoever is on intake, and files every call to the Smokeball matter or SharePoint; Clio is in development and it does not file into LEAP or Actionstep. A$79.99 a lawyer a month with GST included and nothing per call, with QRYSTEL intelligence included when you join by 31 January 2027. More.

VXT

A cloud phone system and AI notetaker for lawyers with published integrations for Smokeball, LEAP, Clio and Actionstep: time entries and matter notes for every call a lawyer takes. A$90 a user a month billed monthly, before tax, plus $5 a number. The right pick for a LEAP or Actionstep firm. More.

FAQ

Questions about RingCentral for law firms

Yes, in two forms on Smokeball's support hub as at 3 October 2026: RingCentral's own integration, which gives click to call and creates a task with the call time for each call in the RingCentral app, and one by Captivo Labs. Neither writes a file note; the note is the lawyer's to type.

Not that LEAP or RingCentral lists. A LEAP firm that wants calls on the matter should look at VXT, which is on the LEAP Marketplace, or CallSmart from Boab IT.

RingCentral does not publish Australian prices; its plans page asks firms to request a quote. Ask for the per-user price, the number charges and whether domestic calls are included before comparing it with a published flat price.

It goes to voicemail, or to a receptionist or AI answering add-on if the firm pays for one. None of those takes a legal intake or files anything to the matter, so the record of that call is whatever the lawyer writes afterwards.
