VXT alternatives for Australian law firms
VXT is a good legal phone system, and for a firm on LEAP or Actionstep it is the one with the integrations. The firms that look for an alternative are usually small, on Smokeball, and losing the calls VXT sends to voicemail, or paying per user and per number for lawyers who are rarely at a desk. Here are the eight other systems on our guide, with what each one actually does for a law firm.
The general phone systems below give a Smokeball or Clio firm a task or a logged call rather than a file note, and nothing listed for LEAP or Actionstep.
We make a competing product
EzyBiz LEX is ours and appears under alternatives. Everything said about the system on this page comes from its own website and from Smokeball, LEAP, Clio and Actionstep as at 3 October 2026, with the sources at the foot of the page, and where a site is silent the page says so.

Why firms look for a VXT alternative, and what to check
The call nobody took
VXT records, transcribes and files the calls a lawyer takes, and sends the rest to voicemail, which it saves to the matter. A firm whose lawyers are in court or with clients for much of the day finds that the calls it most wanted, new enquiries, are the ones that went to voicemail. EzyBiz LEX is the system on the guide that answers those, takes the intake and transfers a qualified lead to whoever is on intake.
The price for a small firm
VXT publishes A$90 a user a month billed monthly, or A$67.50 annually, before tax, plus $5 a month a number. For a two-lawyer firm that is around A$2,300 a year before tax on monthly billing. EzyBiz LEX is A$79.99 a lawyer a month with GST included and no number charge; Teams Phone is cheaper again but files nothing.
The desk
VXT suits a lawyer who takes calls at a desk and wants time entries. A lawyer whose phone is their mobile gets more from a system built around the mobile, with the matter on screen when it rings and the mode set with one tap before a hearing.
The integration, which is the reason to stay
For LEAP and Actionstep, VXT has the published integrations and nothing else built for lawyers does. A firm on either should weigh VXT against CallSmart with LegalVoice, or Yestech VoIP for Actionstep, and not against EzyBiz LEX, which does not file into them.
Questions about VXT alternatives
EzyBiz LEX. Both file every call to the Smokeball matter; EzyBiz LEX also answers the calls nobody took, qualifies a new enquiry and transfers it to intake, and charges one flat A$79.99 a lawyer a month with GST included. VXT records and transcribes the calls a lawyer takes at a desk and saves time to the matter, which EzyBiz LEX does not do.
There is no like-for-like one. VXT is the only legal phone system with published integrations for both LEAP and Actionstep. A LEAP firm can look at CallSmart from Boab IT with its LegalVoice phone system, and an Actionstep firm at Yestech VoIP, which Actionstep's directory lists with call logging and time entries. EzyBiz LEX does not file into either.
On the published figures, yes. VXT is A$90 a user a month billed monthly, before tax, plus $5 a number; EzyBiz LEX is A$79.99 a lawyer a month with GST included and no number charge; Teams Phone with domestic calling is AU$32.90 a user a month before GST but files nothing to the matter. A plain VoIP line is $10 to $33 a user, with no legal integration at all.
The usual reasons in enquiries we take are the unanswered call, which VXT sends to voicemail, and the price per user plus per number for a small firm. The usual reason to stay is LEAP or Actionstep, where VXT has the integrations and nothing else built for lawyers does.
No. EzyBiz LEX is ours and is first on it. Everything said about VXT and the other systems comes from their own websites and from Smokeball, LEAP, Clio and Actionstep, linked in the sources, and the guide this page draws on says plainly where VXT is the better choice.
